The market remained calm with a slight decreasing trend. Price decrease by 4% was reported in Sri Lanka. In Kochi and HCM City a marginal decrease of local price for black pepper was also recorded. In Indonesia and Malaysia, the price remained unchanged. In dollar terms however, a marginal decrease was recorded due to weakening of their local currencies against US dollar.
In Lampung and Bangka, holiday mood still exist during the week and the market continues to be quiet. There is no trading activity reported at domestic market. Limited raw material at farms as well as low price is the main reason for the current quiet situation. Production of pepper in Lampung and Bangka is anticipated to be more or less the same as last year. In Kalimantan and Sulawesi however, production of pepper is expected to remain good.
